The average Birmingham attic has an R-value of R13 in older homes and R19 in new ones. This is an optimistic number after water leaks, animals and electricians get into the attic. Our rates range from 35 cents to .80 a square foot of attic space to blow in an increase of R-value up to R40. The rates vary with recessed lighting and quantity of baffles needed over vents. The materials are eligible for a 30 percent tax credit and you can expect a 20% savings on heating and cooling. After the 30% tax credit, the total cost of the cellulose blow-in will be repaid in savings after two to three  years.
